Galapagos giant tortoise to the dinosaur-like Komodo dragon of southeast Asia. Reptiles also include the snakes, crocodiles and the weird tuatara of New Zealand – an evolutionary oddity with a rudimentary third eye in its head! All reptiles share common characteristics – they are cold blooded and have dry scaly skin that prevents water loss and allows many of these animals to live in the world's most inhospitable places.

The World of Reptiles Science Guide includes five introductory chapters detailing the life history, ecology and body structure of reptiles, as well as specialized chapters which discuss each group of reptiles: the turtles, lizards, snakes, worm lizards, crocodilians and the tuatara. These chapters contain information on a wide variety of reptile species. Individual species can be accessed quickly by using an interactive index.

Narrated video sequences include action footage of alligators and chameleons feeding as well as video of a number of fascinating reptile behaviors. Animations show how reptile's sense organs work, how snakes bite and how reptiles adjust their temperature. A quiz section within each chapter lets the user test his or her knowledge.

Aimed at the adult reptile enthusiast as well as the student biologist, World of Reptiles contains a host of information on these often strange and fascinating creatures.
